A Keuka College student-athlete made national news this week – in part, by toppling a 35-year-old College men’s basketball record.
Lamar Lovelace put up 41 points in a 105-100 win over Russell Sage last Friday (Jan. 9), besting by one the Keuka College single-game scoring record set by Kyle Bower in 1990.
Lamar, a senior, followed his record-setting performance with 21 points and 13 rebounds against Hartwick the following day.
Lamar made 15 of 24 shots, including three of six 3-pointers, during his record-setting Jan. 9 performance. He was a perfect eight-for-eight from the free throw line.
As a result, the Rochester native was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Player of the Week. This marks the first time in program history a Keuka College basketball player has received the honor.
Lamar, a Visual Communication Design major, is the first Empire 8 athlete to be honored nationally since the 2016-17 season. He joins women’s soccer star Emily McGuigan ’20 M’21, national player of the week in October 2016, as the only other Keuka College student-athlete to earn such national recognition.
The Empire 8 Conference also named Lamar as its Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
